TikTok has introduced an updated subscription feature aimed at helping content creators boost their income through exclusive offerings for their followers.

The video platform channel revealed this in its newsroom platform, stating that this strategic step will enable more creators to enhance relationships with their communities.

According to TikTok, this is fueled by the creativity of its creators, who have fostered close-knit communities through their content, adding that, on its page, every niche, interest, and passion is celebrated. It reiterated that with a creator community as diverse as their interests and aspirations, they will continually explore new ways to support their growth by offering a range of monetization opportunities.

Rolled out in select regions, it said the revamped “Subscription” tool allows creators to monetize their content beyond traditional ad revenue by providing exclusive content to paying subscribers. The platform plans to extend this offering to more countries in the coming weeks.

This new feature, which evolved from TikTok’s previous LIVE Subscription tool, opens the door for creators to offer unique perks and content to their most dedicated fans. Unlike the earlier version, which was limited to live streaming, the updated Subscription now includes exclusive videos, live sessions, and personalized notes available only to subscribers.

TikTok’s Subscription places the platform in direct competition with other monetization tools from Patreon, Instagram, and YouTube, offering creators more ways to engage with and reward their fan base. Subscribers can access multiple tiers, each with a different set of perks such as badges, custom stickers for live sessions, and private communication channels called Sub Space, where creators can interact more closely with their supporters.

Additionally, TikTok allows creators to further customize these benefits with options like behind-the-scenes footage, shout-outs, exclusive requests, and even collaborative gaming opportunities, providing a personalized experience for their community.

Eligible creators, who must be at least 18 years old, have a minimum of 10,000 followers, and 100,000 video views in the past month, can now tap into this new revenue stream to grow their content and strengthen their connection with followers.
